Outkick CLE Live - Atlanta
Mon, 07 Dec 2015 13:30:00 +0000

If you miss this CLE, you will regret it. Sure you will get your hours in somewhere. You may even find CLE that are more narrowly tailored to your practice area. But at some point, while you are watching that other CLE, you will think to yourself, "I could have had a beer and listened to Clay Travis instead." Then you will hang your head and go back to counting down the seconds until it is over. We started Outkick CLE in 2014 with one goal: to be the least miserable way for lawyers to earn CLE credit. That's it. We want interesting presenters and interesting topics. We want to host events outside of the standard conference room and have plenty of beer to make it go by just a little faster. We also think you will learn more at our CLE than any other. You see, through scientific research we have concluded that it's really hard to learn anything when you aren't paying attention. If you look around at your typical CLE presentation, you will see a lot of lawyers doing everything BUT paying attention. They will be doing email, reading Outkick the Coverage, refreshing Twitter, pretty much anything they can think of to pass the time. This does not happen at our CLE. At our last event in Atlanta, we got some of the best feeback a CLE presentation could hope for. A partner at a large firm said "I did 1/6 the amount of email that I normally do in a CLE presentation. [Outkick CLE] was actually really interesting." That is high praise for CLE!  Outkick CLE is coming to Atlanta on Monday, December 7th. The details are below. We hope to see you there. As far as CLE goes, it will be a lot of fun. Hour 1: Moneyball for Lawyers Presenter: Roe Frazer - cicayda, llc Disruption is probably the most over-used word in business circles today. "This company is disrupting this other company." "This industry is totally being disrupted." "So and so company just raised $100 billion to disrupt the entire world... ." It can get a little tiring. Putting the hyperbole to the side, new information technologies are changing the world and now they are beginning to change the practice of law as well. The use of advanced analytics were popularized in the Michael Lewis best-seller Moneyball. These same techniques are now being used in the legal industry.  Learn how natural language processing, advanced search, and machine learning combined with legal experts can augment your abilities to conduct legal research and represent your clients in litigation, investigation, and due diligence. We are talking better results at a fraction of the cost of traditional methods. This is no longer the future. It is now. Hour 2: Lawyers Gone Wild Update (ETHICS) Presenter: Keith Lee - Hamer Law Group, associatesmind.com People do really stupid things online. Lawyers are people. I think you see where I am going with this.  Now that everyone has a computer in their pocket, the line between personal and professional life has never been more blurred. That can be both good and bad. For example, people can now exchange ideas and distribute information in a fraction of a second to the entire world. On the other hand, people can now exchange (idiotic) ideas and distribute (embarrassing) information in a fraction of a second (without thinking about it) to the entire world. Keith Lee (@associatesmind) from Hamer Law Group - and founder of the nationally popular Associate's Mind blog - will walk through several recent events that deal with attorneys acting incredibly stupid. He will discuss recent cases as well as ethical problems lawyers run into online. If you like Jerry Springer, or enjoy hearing about the stupid things OTHER people do, you will really like Keith's presentation. Hour 3: This CLE is Brought to You By Draft Kings! Daily Fantasy Sports Update Presenter: Clay Travis - Fox Sports, Outkick the Coverage On Tuesday, November 10th, the New York Attorney General ordered the two biggest players in the booming daily fantasy industry, DraftKings and FanDuel, to stop accepting "bets" from New York residents. This is a big deal. These companies have raised $800 million in venture capital financing from investors including Fox Sports, Major League Baseball, the NBA, Comcast, NBC, Google, and NFL owners Jerry Jones and Robert Kraft.  Three years ago, these companies had negligible revenue and now they claim to be paying out as much as $70 million per week during the NFL season. $70 MILLION PER WEEK. Both have been in the Top 10 television advertisers, with DraftKings spending more than McDonald's, Nissan, AT&T, and GEICO. If you have watched a sporting event recently, you have seen at least 5 of their commercials. Clay Travis, of Fox Sports and Outkick The Coverage, will walk you through the gambling laws implicated by daily fantasy sports, the loophole that these billion dollar businesses are based on, and what the New York Attorney General response will mean for the industry. Clay has a unique perspective and will be able to provide rare insight into the legal and business implications. This hour will also serve as an update to last year's presentation in light of the recent events facing the industry. This will be the best 1 hour of CLE credit you have ever earned. We promise. Happy Hour to follow thanks to the good people at cicayda.
